Former Manchester United striker, Dimitar Berbatov has backed Edinson Cavani to leave Old Trafford for Barcelona after Cristiano Ronaldo stole his ‘spotlight’ at the Red Devils.
Berbatov believes it will be a great deal for Cavani to join Barcelona, adding that the Uruguay international is not 24 anymore.
Cavani has been tipped to leave Man United in 2022 in a bid to get regular playing time.
The former Paris Saint-Germain star hasn’t been on the pitch since the November 2 match with Atalanta in the Champions League.
His last goal for Ralf Rangnick’s side came on October 30 in the victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
“Despite a good season last time out, Cavani hasn’t played enough. When someone like Ronaldo comes into the club, he takes all the spotlight, he plays every game and in the world of football this happens,” Berbatov told Betfair.
“If there’s a chance for Cavani to leave the club, if there is an offer from Barcelona, then, of course, he will be thinking about taking it to get more football, and if he will get more game time in La Liga, then I will support him and say ‘go there and play, it sounds like a great deal, great money and you’re not 24 anymore”.
