5 reasons you are still failing as an artist

Not every musician in the music industry has made it, thousands are still struggling to make it, some may eventually make it, while others may not.

To help even the odds, here are a few things you are probably doing/not doing that’s causing you to fail as an artist.

1. Your budget for promotion/marketing may be less
Not everyone is Davido or Wizkid, we know you don’t have that kind of money, that’s why you haven’t made it to the big scene yet. But the honest truth is, you have to spend to earn. You can spend lesser on the right kind of promotion, which will be very effective and will further your music career, help you gain wider audience and all. However, many people spend either big money on the wrong kind of promotions or even small money on marketing – two epic wrongs!

2. Your team has no real music industry experience
Being a musician is one thing, but having experience in the music field is another challenge. While you may see it as a talent, others in the music industry see it as an investment/business avenue that can earn them some income. So if none of your team members has no real music experience in the industry, you may continue making the right music moves while simultaneously making the wrong business moves that are actually meant to earn you money.

3. Your talent is not enough
This is hard to believe but it’s actually the truth. Here’s the thing, there are loads of wack musicians out there that are making it, but that’s only because they are marketable. If you aren’t that good at making music while also not being marketable, then you will continue to struggle. A good re-branding of what music entails can go a long way to help you. Like the saying goes: “hard work beats talent every time.” If you are willing to learn and are hardworking, then you will surely be able to turn your sweat and passion into sweet and enticing rewards.

4. You feel a mixtape is your clear path to success
A mixtape isn’t the surest way to get recognition and success. The work must be there, no manager or record label will sign you up if you are still carrying a mixtape you made 3 years ago to them, it’ll look like you are lazy, inconsistent, and someone that they can’t invest on.

5. You didn’t promote the music/video you dropped
Another problem is shooting a video, or dropping a track and not promoting it. Once your video is uploaded on youTube, don’t think that it will magically get the kind of views that the likes of Yemi Alade, Olamide, Davido, Wizkid, P-Square (Mr P and RudeBoy Paul) and other top notch artist are getting without promoting the living daylight out of it. Promotion is key and there are many ways to promote your songs and videos (blogs, advertisements, social media, etc.,) to get more views and download.
